Rev. Toph Whisnant (he/him) is excited to join the UBC Austin staff after serving as the Community Pastor at University Baptist Church in Waco, Texas, for 15 years.  He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Religion from Carson Newman College in Jefferson City, TN, and holds a Master of Divinity degree from George W. Truett Theological Seminary in Waco, TX. Toph cares deeply about pastoral care and sitting with people in their doubts, pain, and questions. He loves to engage with God’s activity around the world and learn from other cultures/faiths. He is also passionate about building community through creating safe spaces for the exploration of faith and justice.  Toph brings a depth of pastoral experience and attention to detail in his role as Associate Pastor.   Toph loves to travel the world, is an avid foodie, and loves to spend time in the mountains. Toph has spent the last 21 years in Texas but still calls the mountains of East Tennessee home. Toph is a diehard Michigan Wolverines fan and loves to be active playing tennis, pickleball, and golf. Toph is also a huge music fan, and his top three artists currently are Tyler Childers, Evan Honer, and Maggie Rogers. During the week, you will find Toph exploring new places to eat and drink, working from local coffee shops, and spending time getting to know Austin.
