The Rev. Dr. Larry Bethune (he/him) is the Senior Pastor Emeritus of UBC. A graduate of Baylor University (B.A. in Religion and Greek) and Princeton Theological Seminary (M.Div., Ph.D. In Old and New Testaments), Larry taught at Princeton and Baylor and served as Senior Pastor at churches in Texas and New Jersey before being called to UBC, where he served from 1987 until 2017. While serving UBC Larry was a founding board member of the Texas Freedom Network, President of the American Baptist Churches of the South, and co-founder of the University Area Pastors Fellowship which led to the formation of Micah 6. Larry's life partner, the Rev. Regina Bethune, retired in 2023 as the Director of Spiritual Care and Clinical Pastoral Education for the Ascension Seton Family of Hospitals. Larry and Gina have retired to Driftwood, where they enjoy their three children, four grandchildren, and pet dog, Mija.
